More than 32 members joined our social night on March 17.   The purpose of the meeting was to share the experiences of bike touring and bike packing adventures.

Our President, Paul, provided a snapshot of his experiences over more than a decade of bike touring.

Then he introduced Calum Campbell, a long time member and bike tourer for more than 20years.  He guided us through his favoured bike setups and shared some of his
experiences with equipment including bob trailers, panniers, racks and more recently frame and handlebar bags.  He had his bike and equipment at the meeting and was able to demonstrate many of the points he raised.

Calum shared a few tips and tricks about camping, water crossings, his experiences with mud and reusable cable ties.

Paul Lange then talked about his recent bike adventure doing the Hunt 1000, a 1000km off road ride across the high country of Australia from Canberra to Melbourne.  He discussed the planning, his set up, the challenges as well as the unexpected camaraderie he experienced during the event.  There was no doubt that this was a grueling event but his reflections about preparation and setup provided valuable lessons for the group.  Paul took to writing up his reflections, perhaps to give him guidance for the next time?   You can his report by clicking on Paul Lange's reflection on the Hunt 1000
