While most of the activities of the BBTA occur on a bike - either on a daily ride or a longer tour - we do have some scheduled meetings. These occur fairly regularly, in fact.

Next Ride Planning Meeting

Ride Planning Meetings
These are held on a Monday night about 6 or 7 weeks before the next calendar is due to come out. Since this is every 2 months, these meetings are once every 2 months. The exact date will be shown in the current
Ride Calendar. It is held at 7:30pm at the Brisbane West Senior Citizens hall, 132 Latrobe Tce, Paddington, Brisbane.
This meeting is chaired by the Ride Coordinator. He/she will generally hand out ride planning proformas that may already have a few rides listed for the upcoming period. Many leaders submit rides before the meeting to ensure that they get a date that they want. Or they simply want to put on a few rides, and that saves them showing up for the meeting!
During the meeting, the Ride Coordinator will step through the proposed calendar day by day. Any one who would like to lead a ride for that day is asked to speak up, giving a brief description of the ride length, start place and pace. No exact details need be given, although if you already know all the details, then you can by all means provide these. Most of us simply put down rough ideas for the rides. We try to balance the rides on each day so that we get a fair mix of short and long rides, hard and easy, etc.
The library is also open for borrowing books, and usually a general discussion will start up. This eventually leads to tea and biscuits to wind up the evening.
Within the next few weeks after the planning meeting, all ride leaders are expected to firm up their proposed rides. This includes all the details that need to be printed in the Ride Calendar - ie start time, pace and general ride description, etc.
You can also send these by email. A draft Ride Calendar will be placed up on this website (see the bar at the left of the page). This will be updated regularly as rides come in, although all you really need to do is look at the Ride Calendar itself. It is very handy to download it every so often to see how the rides are building up. It is also good to check that other rides similar to your own have not been placed on the same dates as yours. You can still move rides around at this stage, and you are encouraged to do so.

Next Social Night

Mon, 13 Sep 10 |
Social Nights
Social nights are held at the same place as the Ride Planning meetings (The Brisbane West Senior Citizens hall). They are also on a Monday night at 7:30pm. The exact timing will be in the ride calendar but they are once every 2 months.
Each social night has planned activities. Usually a guest speaker is arrange to talk on some cycling topic. Or a local bike shop notable might be asked to give a talk on bike repairs. While these nights are generally an excuse to meet off the bike, they can also be very interesting in their own right.
Annual General Meeting
The only other meeting we hold is the annual AGM - which is held in March. Again, the exact date is listed in the Ride Calendar. At this meeting, the committee for the upcoming year is voted in.
